Understanding your hair type is the key to everything. If you know your curl pattern, porosity, density, and texture; you can make sure that the products you buy are right for you. This can allow for styling limitations that are best suited for your hair type. Curl patterns typically fall into 3 different types: wavy, curly and kinky.
Wavy 2A- 2C
2A have a fine, barely-there tousled texture that's very easy to straighten. 2B hair lies flatter at the crown with defined S-shaped waves. 2C waves are thick and more susceptible to frizz. The S-bends are well-defined and begin at the roots.
Curly 3A- 3C
3A tend to be shiny with large, loose curls.3B hair is well-defined spiral curls that may be bouncy ringlets or tight corkscrews.3c well-defined, tight corkscrews or coils with lots of strands densely packed together.
Coily 4A- 4C
4A have dense springy, S-patterned coils, kinky curly texture with lots of volume to spare.4B strands are densely packed tight coil, bend in sharp angles like the letter Z.4C textures are similar to 4B textures, but the tightly-coiled strands are more fragile and have a very tight zig-zag pattern that is sometimes indiscernible to the eye.
